THE BEACH PATH
Not many of Sydney's beach holiday houses have their own private path through the bush to the sand!
In the time it takes you to scroll through these photos you will have walked to Bungan Beach from The Studio. It takes literally 2 minutes! The beach path winds down through the densely vegetated Bungan Beach Reserve and on to the sand hills, which have been reclaimed and stabilised over the years by the tireless work of 'Friends' on Bungan Beach. The works first started with spinifex planting as a first coloniser (my own mother did a lot of the original planting) so that other more sophisticated natives - like the hakeas and banksias - could take hold.
When the seas are smooth, another feature of Bungan's beach life comes to the fore, with kayakers and paddle boarders making their way around the corner of Bungan Head to the beautiful Newport Reef. The reef is only accessible by land at super low tides (and only just), so it's mostly the preserve of intrepid paddlers. Kayakers usually launch out from the very protected Little Mona Vale (with its lack of crowds and easy parking) just around Bungan's southern headland. Newport Reef is also a great place for scuba diving and snorkelling - and of course the fishing!
